Sam Eagle Scout Project

Sam's Eagle Scout Project

Connemara Nature Preserve in Allen.  We rekindled an old relationship of mom's through JustServe with Meadow Manager Bob Mione who remembered Sam from about 6 years before.

Sam's project was to help transplant some Big-Blue Stem grass and replanting it into a field with other native prairie grasses.  He also helped divide up some Indian grass bulbs and help plant it in the same field.  This is important because the connemara conservancy tries very hard to create a space that is native to the area, back to the original environment of Allen.

On a Saturday, about 24 volunteers came to help with the project.  They helped to move the grasses from one field to another.

Another part of the project was baking many batches of bread to sell to purchase the needed supplies of sharpshooter shovels and top soil for the project.  We donated the shovels to the preserve when the project was over.

In all we were super proud of Sam and how much he learned through this project.  And that it was a "real" project working with a community partner like Bob.  Way to go Sam!
