May 2016 Week 2: Changing the World

We are nearing the end of the school year and we are DONE!  It's REALLY HARD to motivate my children to get ready for school on time and out the door.  UGH--we are ALL ready for the lazy days of summer.

I got to spend the day being a chaperone on a field trip with my favorite kindergartner to the Heard Museum.  I was in charge of a couple more boys in his class, they really kept me on my toes!

Change the World Weekend 2016
I'm super proud of our family's involvement in the annual "Change the World" weekend of service.  Each year our church joins with many other churches in our community do do a lot of service.

Project #1 Refugee Hygiene Kits
For FHE a few weeks prior, we went and got stuff to make 6 hygiene kits for families being resettled in the Dallas Area.

Project #2 Lunch Sacks for the Homeless
This is one that is pretty awesome.  Kaitlyn has watched me/helped me do this service event a couple times.  Her FIRST week in YW they were soliciting for a YW who was looking for a Personal Progress Project.  Kaitlyn totally volunteered to lead this project for the Stake Service Day.  Good for her!  On the day of she had over 150 volunteers show up throughout the morning.  They decorated 700 lunch sacks, and then we did another 300 on our own to make it an even 1000!

Project #3: Fence staining for an elderly woman.
his was our "ward" designated project and somehow Stephen got put as project lead.  This project first required him to spend many many hours power washing the fence before it could be stained.  We spent FHE as a family working on it the Monday before and then that day Stephen, Sam and many members of our ward spent most of the day staining the fence.  When it was over, it looked beautiful!
