Fall break hike & Franklin Safari

In a few months, Andy and Stephen are taking their two eldest kids to go backpacking in the Grand Canyon.  Carl and Susan are planning on going too.  This is going to be an adjustment for the kids, so we decided to take advantage of a nice day and get the kids out to hike 5 miles with their packs.  So we went up to Lake Texoma to a trail up there and hiked.  It was great.  Lots of whining and complaining.  We made lunch on their backpacking stove to try that out.  The "littles" spent much time running and climbing anything they can.  Love these people of mine!

Among other things we needed to accomplish before heading to CS to be with family was to winterize the boat.  In years past we'd paid someone to do it but last year they took SOOOO long to get it done and all the while it sat out in a field getting rained on and filthy.  So Stephen decided to try and do the project himself.  But at every turn it was problematic.  Belts and bolts on too tight taking much more effort and time than was worth the money we saved by doing it ourselves. In the end there was a bolt that just wouldn't budge.  We worked as long as we could and then took it up to storage.

We met the fam in Franklin bright and early on Wednesday morning.  We were going on a drive through safari.  It was fun!  Alex got a huge loogie on him from a giraffe--hilarious.  And there was a very aggressive camel at the end of the safari that took care of any left over food we had.
